Abydos (Stargate)
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
Abydos (P8X-873, ) is the fictional world on which the film Stargate is set. Between the events of the film and television series Stargate SG-1, it was believed to be the only other planet the stargate could dial to.
In the ancient past, the Goa'uld Supreme System Lord Ra moved a number of ancient Egyptian people from Earth to Abydos via the stargate and forced them to mine naquadah (Abydos is also the name of an ancient Egyptian city, and is possibly where those brought to the planet originated from). When the Earth slaves of the Goa'uld revolted and buried the stargate, Ra banned all written knowledge on Abydos.
By the events of the film, Kasuf led the small agrarian town near the Temple of Ra, which houses the stargate. His children, Sha're and Skaara, grew close to Daniel Jackson and Jack O'Neill, respectively, and helped them overthrow Ra.
A year later, the Goa'uld Apophis abducted Sha're and Skaara, and implanted them with his mate (Amaunet) and offspring (Klorel), respectively. Although Skaara was eventually freed of the parasite, Teal'c killed Sha're while she was attacking Daniel Jackson, while both were in search of her missing son, the Harcesis.
SG-1 returned to Abydos by request of Kasuf, because Shifu, the Harcesis child, had arrived. Shifu showed Jackson a vivid hallucination that demonstrated what the Harcesis's genetic memory would cause: misery and suffering on a global, if not interstellar, scale.
The banished System Lord Anubis destroyed Abydos with a weapon built from five components ("Eyes"), but Oma Desala "ascended" the population before they died.it:Abydos (Stargate)
