ASUS

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

Asustek Computer, Inc. commonly called ASUS, is a Taiwan-based company which produces computer components such as motherboards, graphics cards, and notebooks. ASUS has recently begun producing PDAs, cellular phones, LCD monitors, and other computer-related products. ASUS rebrands Pioneer optical drives and resells them with minor modifications. Its main competitors include MSI, Gigabyte and other motherboard manufacturers from Taiwan.

ASUS currently sells more motherboards than any other company, reaching 30 million in 2004. This number, however, includes rebranding contracts. ASUS also produces a variety of components for other corporations, including Sony's PlayStation 2 video game console and Apple Computer's iPods, iPod Shuffles, iBook G4s, among others.

ASUS is popular with system builders, having gained a reputation for stable and performant components.
