- After severe losses, Roman determination kept them fighting in the Second Punic War against Hannibal. As a result, they wore down Carthaginian forces in Spain and Sicily, then launched a series of raids across the Mediterranean Sea that forced Hannibal to withdraw back to northern Africa, where he was at last decisively defeated in the Battle of Zama.es:Años 200 adC
