1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
The 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards (the Welsh Cavalry) is an armoured dragoon regiment of the British Army, comprising troops from Wales, Herefordshire, and Shropshire.
It was formed in 1959 by amalgamation of two other regiments, 1st King's Dragoon Guards and the Queen's Bays (2nd Dragoon Guards), both of which were initially raised in 1685 by James II of England in reaction to the Monmouth Rebellion. Because of this lineage the regiment is the British Army's senior line cavalry regiment.
The regiment provides formation reconnaissance and is equipped with Scimitar armoured reconnaissance vehicles.
