Åbenrå

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

Åbenrå (Also spelled Aabenraa the traditional spelling, in German: Apenrade), is a municipality in south Denmark, in the county of South Jutland on the peninsula of Jutland. The municipality covers an area of 129 km², and has a total population of 22,020.

From 1864 to 1920, it was part of Prussia and as such part of the North German Confederation and, from 1871 onwards, part of the German Empire.

A relatively great part of the German minority in Denmark lives in Åbenrå, where their daily Der Nordschleswiger is published.
